The pre-theatre problem
Dubai Opera performances generally start in the evening, and the district's kitchens are busiest exactly then. The practical answer is to eat early and close. Bisou sits on Dubai Opera Plaza itself — a standalone building on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, a few minutes' walk from the auditorium — which removes the drive and the parking from the equation entirely. Valet runs from the Dubai Opera drop-off at AED 25, deducted from your bill.
If you are booking a pre-theatre table anywhere in the district, ask for the earliest seating the kitchen offers and tell them you have a curtain. Any decent Downtown kitchen will pace the courses to it.
Eating after the curtain
The harder problem is afterwards. Most of the Boulevard stops taking orders well before midnight, which leaves a lot of people walking back toward Dubai Mall with nowhere to go. Bisou serves until midnight Sunday to Thursday and until one in the morning on Friday and Saturday, with the full à la carte menu running to the end of service.
Late in Downtown is also when the district is at its best: the Fountain shows continue into the evening, and the Boulevard is walkable once the heat drops.
Breakfast, which nobody plans for
Downtown's breakfast options thin out quickly once you step away from the hotels. Bisou serves a full breakfast menu from 09:00 every day — Turkish eggs, shakshuka, syrniki, scrambled king crab, and croissants baked that morning — which makes it a reasonable first stop before Dubai Mall opens properly.
It is also the cheapest way into the room. A croissant and an Apricot V60 is a very different commitment from dinner, and the dining room looks the same at either.
Getting around the district on foot
Downtown is more walkable than it looks on a map, but the distances are deceptive in summer. From Dubai Mall, the walk out past the Dubai Fountain to Dubai Opera Plaza takes about ten minutes. Valet parking is taken from the Dubai Opera drop-off at AED 25, deducted from your bill.
For the Burj Khalifa itself, At the Top entry is inside Dubai Mall, so the same ten-minute walk applies in reverse.
